As many of you may know, the Flax story does not begin at our Gayley Avenue store, but goes back to 1931, when my grandfather opened his store in downtown Los Angeles. For three generations, the store has been a Flax family tradition; from downtown Los Angeles location, to Westwood on Lindbrook Avenue with my father in 1950 and finally in 2002, when Phil and I opened Flax Pen to Paper on Gayley Avenue.
Phil and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some upcoming changes at Flax Pen to Paper. On July 1st, Phil and I will be retiring and will be selling Flax to our longtime manager and dear friend Jeremy Saumure. Jeremy is someone we like and respect, and who understands the spirit of the business that we created. We are confident he will grow and develop the business for many years to come. We could not leave the store in better hands.
We encourage you to support Flax Pen to Paper as you always have. In this time of uncertainty, small businesses like ours have become a precious commodity, and we must all do our part so that we not find ourselves in a world where all commerce is e-commerce.
Phil and I will not entirely vanish on July 1st, partly because we love the store and have trouble letting go, and partly because we care about Jeremy’s ongoing success and want to make ourselves available to him as much as possible. We have treasured the support and friendship you have shown us. Your loyalty and kindness made us look forward to opening our doors each day and we will always be grateful to you.
We thank you for everything!
