Herbin Bottled Ink
Established in 1670 in France, J. Herbin is the oldest production ink maker in the world. Their 30 ml bottles have a unique rectangular shape that doubles as a pen rest. Pens can balance on the flat area on the top of the bottle near the cap.
These bottles are known as "D bottle pen inks." The “D” refers to an old French unit of measure the “la Demi Courtine” This “The Jewel of Inks” line was created in J. Herbin's shop on the Rue des Fosses Saint-Germain in Paris in 1700.
Flax also sells Herbin ink cartirdges; these aren't listed on the web yet but we can help you with those by phone or email
Please understand that colors will appear differently when viewed on a backlit computer screen versus drawn from a fountain pen onto paper. Feel free to call us at Flax Pen To Paper if you are either unfamiliar with the ink colors or would like help in making a selection. (In store, we have a book showing actual use of each ink color we sell.)
