Artisan Glass "Salts" (Small Dish/Bowl)
Did you know that in days gone by salts and other spices where placed in special dishes (called "cellars") on the dinner table? Inspired by that past, Fritz created these "salts" which can be used for a variety of purposes. People love them for holding their cufflinks, rings and other small items and, of course, for the conversation starter if used for salt on the table.
Fritz Lauenstein carefully lays stripes of cane glass to make designs before taking the glass through the rest of the process, which includes stretching it from the ceiling after removal from the furnace, before blowing and making this beautiful dish. Unfortunately, because these are unique items requiring special care, we are presently limiting purchases to in-store pickup.
Flax Pen To Paper is curating a collection of fine glassworks from Fritz Lauenstein. Most pieces are one-of-a-kind from our glassblower artisan friend who works with his wife, June, from his studio on Cape Cod. Fritz's glass blowing work has been shown at museums and his ornaments have hung on the White House Christmas tree but since we know Fritz and June from our many visits to his studio, we're sure you'll find the beautiful works we carry can make a unique gift you won't readily find elsewhere - certainly not on the west coast.
More came in on 11/10 - will update with pictures soon!
